A Letter From CareConnect

Update: Now that the New York Department of Financial Services has approved a wind-down plan, we want to give you some details about timing. CareConnect will not write or renew individual policies for calendar year 2018, and will stop writing and renewing group policies as of November 30, 2017. Of course, we will honor all existing health insurance policies throughout their remaining terms, including group policies that continue into 2018, and Northwell Health will stand behind all medically necessary claims for covered services you receive during that time. We thank you for allowing us to serve you over the past four years. Providing you the attention and help you need will continue to be our focus throughout this process.

You may have heard that Northwell Health, our parent company, has made the decision to wind down CareConnect and withdraw from New York State’s insurance market. This was a very tough call to make, because Northwell strongly believes that innovative, provider-owned health insurance companies like CareConnect can help improve health care quality and hold down costs for consumers and businesses. We’re proud of our record of giving New Yorkers affordable access to excellent care and of the way we partnered with our doctors to keep our members healthier.

But given the decision to wind down CareConnect, there are a couple of things I want you to know. First, this process is going to take time—nothing is going to happen to your coverage tomorrow, next week or next month. In fact, your health plan will not be affected this year and any policies that are written for 2018 will also remain in effect. Most important, we will be here for you throughout the transition process. We will help you connect with your doctors and pay your claims. To put it simply, it is business as usual here for our members and providers.

Once New York’s Department of Financial Services approves a withdrawal plan, we will share more details and send letters to all members stating the date that we will stop issuing new policies. In the meantime, if you have any questions please get in touch—either by calling us at 855-706-7545, emailing us at questions@careconnect.com, or visiting us at our Customer Care Center in East Hills, NY.

As has been true ever since we launched almost four years ago, we want to help.
